Learn MoreGoogle Maps for Truckers: What a Car Map Leaves Out
Trucker Path plans routes around your truck’s height, width, weight and type. Google Maps designs driving routes for cars and does not list a truck mode. Learn what that means for low clearances, hazmat loads and finding places a truck can stop.
Free to download. Some features require a paid plan.

Before you choose a route
Three things a truck route needs to account for
A route is only part of the trip. Check the vehicle, the load and the places you need to reach before setting off.

Your truck’s dimensions
Plan for height, width, weight and vehicle type. Check low-clearance information and posted restrictions—not just a car route.

What you are hauling
Hazmat loads can add route restrictions. Apply your load class in Trucker Path before planning the route.

Where you can stop
Find truck parking, CAT scales, washes and repairs. Check driver reports before arrival; parking availability can change.

What changes when the map knows it is a truck
Trucker Path brings truck-specific routing, stop details, parking reports and fuel tools into your trip planning.

The route
Plan a route for your truck
Set your truck’s height, width, weight and vehicle type before planning the route. Apply your hazmat load class and check low-clearance information alongside posted road restrictions.

The stops

Find truck stops, CAT scales, truck washes, rest areas, Walmart stores, repair shops and DOT inspection sites. Check truck amenities, opening hours and driver reviews to understand the stop before you arrive.

Parking
Check parking before you arrive

FAQ
Google Maps for trucks: your questions
Does Google Maps have a truck route option?
Google documents its driving routes as designed for cars and warns that they may use car-only roads. Its published travel modes do not include a truck mode. Trucker Path supports truck-specific routing; check the comparison sources above for the scope of each feature.
Can Google Maps avoid low bridges?
Google’s directions guide does not document routing by truck height. Avoiding tolls or highways is not the same as checking bridge clearance. Trucker Path offers truck-profile routing and low-clearance information. Always check posted restrictions and conditions on the road.
Is there a free truck GPS that routes on my truck size?
Trucker Path is free to download and supports routes based on your truck profile. Some features require a paid membership; check the current plan for the routing tools you need.
Can I plan a hazmat route?
Trucker Path supports hazmat routing through its Apply Hazmat setting. Select your load class before planning a route; some features require a paid membership. Google’s directions guide does not document commercial hazmat routing. Follow applicable restrictions for your load.
What about Waze or Apple Maps?
Check each app’s current official vehicle and routing documentation before using it for a truck. This guide’s verified comparison covers Google Maps; it does not establish the current truck-specific capabilities of Waze or Apple Maps.
When is Google Maps useful alongside a truck GPS?
Google Maps can help you preview a destination in Street View where available and plan an ordinary car journey. Use truck-specific information to assess the truck route and destination access.
